Who watched Morning Girls yesterday? Haha, nothing. Toff was there. How cool it is to see your classmate on TV.

Anyway so we also had an editorial board meeting yesterday (school magazine). Toff had to hurry up from the studio to his house to school to attend our meeting. Haha. Anyway so there, meeting. I’m managing editor see. And I wanted that position. You’re not really the writing type of editor but you’re in command nonetheless. I don’t want to write see. But then, as things went I was forced to fill in authorship of one of the regular columns in Hilites. Aaah!!! Shit.

That’s all.

Oh, and Toff said Senator Loren Legarda and Antonio Leviste were fake in Morning Girls. Oo nga naman, Loren looks so fake acting somewhat casually affectionate towards her husband for the public. I think she’s running for the presidency too. Oh well, here we go!

Swings and chronicles

I went with my dad to a nearby driving range this afternoon. You see, someone gave him a golf set. And he hasn’t played more than two times yet so he was an amateur. So I tagged along. It was embarrassing. There were tens of other golfers in the range making shots more than 200 yards long. And me? Well, I had a tutor beside me. Let’s say only 1 out of ten shots I made were good ones. And when I say good I mean, it reached at most 50 yards. I looked pathetic. I had almost 200 tries. Oh well… it’s my first time, who knows. I’ll try it again sometime.

My palms are aching. I didn’t know a golf club weighed as much as it does.

Thursday, our visita iglesia route went like:

Dela Strada along Katipunan Avenue, then to Miraculous Medal Parish in Project 4 then to Christ the King then to EDSA Shrine. Sanctuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park was next. Then we went off to that lonely church in the middle of the vast reclaimed area in Manila Bay. Then we went to the Redemptorist Church in Baclaran. St. Andrew Church in Paranaque, to St. Joseph Church in Las Pinas where the bamboo organ is enshrined. Then to a church in Bacoor, Cavite, then to Imus Cathedral in Imus. Then we went to Silang then to two churches in Tagaytay. PHEW! Tiring huh?

We dropped by my grandfather’s house in Amadeo before going home. You see, my mom brought along my prom pics and like showed it to everyone. I hated the attention. Well of course, I was flattered but when it gets too much, it’s irritating.

So Friday, my parents decided to check us in a hotel for a night. We went here. It was great. A very luxurious hotel-apartment. Complete everything. Two bedrooms each with its own bath and dressing room. Utensils, kitchen, laundry facilities, etcetera. I want to live there! Imagine, Glorietta is right below you and you’re in the heart of Ayala Center. But well, we’re not that rich to afford such property. One night of pretending we’re rich snobs is enough.

Sayang we didn’t bring the laptop. There was a cable modem in our hotel-apartment unit!!

See you tomorrow

Well, yesterday was tiring. We went to churches from Dela Strada near Ateneo to Baclaran and to as far as one of those retreat houses in Tagaytay. Then we dropped by my grandfather’s house at Amadeo before heading home.

So anyway, I’ll update tomorrow. I’ll go prepare now. We’re staying here for tonight. Ah, I’m not excited.

Maundy Thursday morning

Hey guys. We’ve just been staying home all week. I was supposed to go out with my classmates yesterday because it was Erik’s birthday but my parents didn’t allow me. Anyway, so it’s been really boring.

Today is my mom’s birthday. Gee, she’s growing less younger every year. So am I… I mean it’s scary. Come to think of it, I’m going to college next year and before I know it, I’ll have my own life. Wah. I feel like I’m still a kid.

So magvivisita iglesia kami ngayon. Then I just heard that my parents are planning to check us in a hotel for the weekend, for the sake of staying in a luxurious hotel this summer. They don’t have any plans of taking us out of the country this summer you see. Just a short vacation at Puerto Galera this May. And then my dad wants to immerse me at the isolation of his provincial hometown alone with my grandfather for one whole week so I could get to know the townspeople and learn how to manage and harvest the coffee and fruits, and those kinds of stuff. Para daw maranasan ko yung mga dinaanan n’ya as a provincial boy. I don’t know if it has something to do with my being the eldest male in my generation (I think, my uncle might have another elder male child from another woman, I don’t really know) in a patriarchal clan. No qualms, I’d be willing to do that.

So I better get ready.

You’re 14!

It was totally out of my head yesterday when I was talking about my brother and I, that today is his birthday.

Anyway, report card day today. This morning I was so lazy to go to school because I was too lazy to commute, but my classmates were able to force me. Yay, I passed, and with third-honors pa rin thankfully. Pero malaki ang binaba from my prevoius terms’ grades. Anyway I accompanied one of my friends process his financial aid application too. Sigh, I don’t know, I think I’ve been a little insensitive towards him lately. But hey dude, you can count on me anytime. So there, I accompanied him all morning. After that we spent almost the whole day at Blue Skies. I didn’t play though. I just stayed there with them. So while my classmates were playing the usual LAN games, I was there at a table doing my homework for Mandarin classes tomorrow.

Anyway, I realized something. I always said I hated commuting right? Well… maybe because I always commuted alone. It’s more pleasant when someone’s with you. Yah, I commuted home with Ira this afternoon.

That’s all. Happy birthday. Hey, I didn’t quarrel with him today as a gift. Both our days aren’t complete without pissing each other off you see. It’s a daily supplement.

Church for the poor?

We go to mass at the parish in UP Diliman. I was wondering why the famous running priest, Fr. Robert Reyes wasn’t saying mass there anymore so I caught news of what happened at yesterday’s Sunday Inquirer magazine. Apparently, he was transferred from the more prestigious parish to a more congested one, and there are a lot of speculations. Anyway, one thing I wanted to bring up here.

He traces what he sees as unequal treatment to materialism. “Some priests become friends with very rich families in prominent parishes. In fact, that is what keeps the church from being critical of tycoon Lucio Tan, Danding Cojuangco, and even (President) Gloria (Macapagal-Arroyo). It’s because of the secret liaisons that the church has with rich people. I just want to remind the church not to make statements about being a church of the poor when in fact so many of us really belong to the church of the rich.”

It depresses me, and makes me a little ticked off. I mean, look at any formal portrait of our Manila archbishop and see that big bejeweled necklace-cross he’s wearing, and all those jewelry in his hands. He lives in a luxurious mansion. He mingles with the politicians and other elite socialites sucking up to him. How hypocritical can he get? Reminds me too much of the Spanish friars in Jose Rizal’s novels.
