Eternal hope

Can we please process this wonderful eternal spring of hope. It’s nice to hear that according to the survey, up to ninety percent of Filipinos said they would enter the new year with hope, rather than fear. That’s nice, since fear is capable of paralyzing one into inactivity. But what good does hope make if it turns into the same apathy among people. Let’s not stop at hoping. Hoping always means depending on the future or depending on other people. Let’s do something now. (Don’t pin your hopes on the many predictions of those fortune tellers and feng shui experts featured in almost all TV programs these past few days.)

Again, may we all have a prosperous new year.

Sa pagwawakas ng taon

After the Southern Leyte mudslides, there’s the devastating Iran earthquake where up to 40,000 people are expected to have died and tens of thousands more were left homeless. Then there’s the China gas leaks that killed more than 200 people and displaced more than 40,000. Then another mudslide incident in California — that’s aside from the earthquake that occured there too just recently. Also, we just had the US mad cow scare and two new seperate cases of SARS in China and Taiwan.

Today, Sen. Panfilo Lacson files his certificate of candidacy amidst disunity in the opposition. Also, popular television journalist Sen. Noli de Castro accepts administration party’s offer to run as Pres. Arroyo’s vice-president.

May we all have a more prosperous new year.

Opportunists in tragedy

Politicians hamper relief distribution. President chides Leyte execs for hampering relief efforts. “‘Let us not turn human tragedies into political opportunities,’ the President said in a statement.”

The distribution of relief goods to the victims of landslides in three southern towns in Leyte was delayed when wards of Southern Leyte Representative Aniceto Saludo insisted that the items were distributed by his ally, Mayor Diego Yuboc. Reports said relief goods also bore stickers with Saludo’s name, even if the goods were donated by other groups.

Shame on you, Mr. Saludo!

Fourth Year class pics

Taken a couple of months ago. Try and see if you can spot me (and my other classmates, because I know some visitors to my site are my classmates’ stalkers - kala n’yo ‘di ko alam ah, hehe).

Tragedies

Close to a hundred thousand are left homeless in the landslides that struck Southern Leyte. Close to two hundred dead people have been recovered from the mud. Also, over seventy people are feared dead as a ferry disappeared in the seas of Palawan. Heavy rains continue to pour into central Philippines. Tragedies here and there!

Today, FPJ formally accepts his nomination as the “united” opposition’s standard bearer. Another tragedy or indicative of something more tragic to come, I’d hate to presume. (It’s silly, I know, but who knows?)

Winamp 5

the new WinAmp 5I’m switching from iTunes back to Winamp. The new and free Winamp 5 features pretty much the same features of iTunes (except the Music store, which is useless for me since the stuff aren’t available in the Philippines). Compared to the previous versions, It has a more powerful media library, and a much better graphic interface (you even have the option of switching to different color themes). Winamp also now allows you to rate your songs (just as you can do in WMPlayer and iTunes). Another thing, I check my Windows Task Manager, and it only uses less than 20 MB of memory while running on the background (a little lighter than the other players). Nice! Worth a try.

EDIT: Oh look, there’s even free access to internet TV porn. Hahaha (bad, bad!) (Something’s wrong. The porn streams are easily accesible through the list of internet TV channels, if you browse through the rated-R and above section). There’s also internet radio, by the way.
