OpenOffice
Okay, I’m now using OpenOffice to do my papers. It’s an open-source software that can rival MS Office. The best thing is it’s free. And it’s open source! Meaning… it’s free of corporate watchamacallit. It can open and edit your MS .doc, .xls and .ppt files too, just as you can with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, so that’s great too. I’m liking it so far! It’s just a ~40mb download. I can’t believe this is for free

hehehe..kapag nagopen ka naman ng ms worn document to openoffice..nasisira yung ibang format
It’s because MSOffice documents don’t reveal their formats. It’s difficult to reverse engineer everything, this is bad because it doesn’t allow interoperability and thus you are tied to their product.
On their other hand, OO or other Open Source productivity suites like KOffice open theif format, in fact OO is based on XML that allows interoperability with other suites that also support XML. There is a move that the next-generation formats will be based on this.
You can also try using VIM for Windoze or EMACS for Windoze. These are Open Source text editors and very popular Linux text editors which you can find in any Linux flavor.
