Just a short beach trip

One of my mom’s friends invited us to stay overnight at Lian, Batangas this past weekend. It was just a short beach trip. I was not too excited since it was on short notice. But still, it’s the beach.

Even though I didn’t get a high grade from it, I’ve realized how much Economics 11 under Dr. Sicat proved itself to be a worthwile elective to take.
Last Thursday, we had a “national situation” discussion with CAP (Concerned Artists of the Philippines), where as a requirement for CWTS (Civic Welfare Training Service), I was assigned to assist in. Actually, I don’t really have problems helping out in left-leaning cause-oriented groups, because I believe I’m left-leaning myself. But CAP is apparently a little too left for my comfort. I mean, I was a little irked that last Thursday, when they were discussing with us the problems of our country, they never failed to attribute every single national issue with globalization and American imperialism. That’s just a tad too left and sweepingly misconstrued for me. Naniniwala ako na sobrang lubha na ng krisis sa bansa natin ngayon. Nagnanais rin ako ng mas makabayan at progresibong lipunan. Pero I don’t believe that all our problems are happening just because America continues to colonize us or globalization continues to impoverish developing countries like the Philippines. I still believe in the ideals of today’s prevailing systems, free market, globalization, democracy, etcetera. There are glitches and injustices, yes. But we can work out solutions without being too protectionist an economy or too socialist a state.
Anyway, buti na lang at nilagay nila ako sa Kontra-Busal campaign. Not too radical, I guess. At least it’s something I agree in. It’s a campaign against government censorship proposals masking under anti-pornography and anti-terrorism.
