Go back to the streets

When people were rallying and clamoring in the streets for Arroyo’s resignation, they were told to channel their grievances through due process. Now what has happened to this due process they were insisting on? What are we left to do?

Patayan na

I hate it how Gloria Arroyo and her allies keep outsmarting us with technicalities. I hate Gloria Arroyo. (Like you didn’t know that).

Cheaters win

PCIJ reports, “Billions in Farm Funds Used for Arroyo Campaign”. Newsbreak Online also has a special report on how the military was used to cheat for Arroyo. Here are other Newsbreak stories about the systematic cheating Gloria Arroyo and her minions allegedly conducted last year. Don’t read these kung ayaw n’yong kumulo ang dugo niyo sa sukam. (Yeah, yeah, she cheated, so what? “For the country’s good”, let’s just let her finish her term until 2010, right?)

I’ve always wondered why the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball team has a lot of non-Atenean fans, especially among high school kids. Even my younger brother, who isn’t even from Ateneo, is for the Blue Eagles in the UAAP basketball tourney. I think some people think it makes them look cool.

U-Na-I-Ba-E-Ra-Sa-I-Da-A-Da!

Went to Ateneo last Thursday afternoon with my MCO friends to watch the UP-Ateneo basketball game. I was really anticipating this meet-up of my high school alma mater and my university. But I’m on the maroon side now. I was even wearing my maroon-est looking red shirt. Cheering and chanting for UP was fun especially with such a boisterous crowd. Although I did feel weird that the chants and cheers from the other side were overwhelmingly familiar. I sometimes found myself unconsciously chanting halikinu. Watching the game was fun, well except for the part where UP lost. That depressed me for a while, but it’s all right. There’s more to UP pride than just college basketball.

When I was singing the Ateneo alma mater song after the game, I couldn’t get myself to sing two lines of the song. Not because I was bitter or anything. It’s just that I realized, those lines don’t apply to me anymore — or if they ever did in the first place. I’m eternally grateful for how AHS ‘formed’ me. I’ve always been very proud of my being from Ateneo High School. But my blood was never really “blue”.

  • Sa Pilipinas lang pala may boogie. It’s our chopsuey-mix adaptation of different American rock n’ roll social dances. It’s currently the lesson in social dance class. Dizzying, but fun.
  • We’re also finally starting on our Film 112 production. We had the pre-production meetings last Tuesday. I’m excited!
  • Went to Pro-Life Philippines this morning with my Geog 1 groupmates, Salve and Gina, to gather some inputs about their stand on the Philippine “overpopulation” debate. Then this afternoon, I went with JB and Kris to Ateneo to get some inputs from Jesuit priests but we didn’t set an appointment so we ended up just re-planning for our report. I’ll reserve my comments for some other entry. We still need to reactions from some pro-population management advocates.
  • UP-Ateneo game tomorrow!!
  • As usual, no matter how much I denounce it beforehand, I always end up cramming for exams. So, that’s all for this entry. I should get back to reviewing now.

‘Di ka maihahambing

On my way to school, I noticed that there was a really long queue of Batasan tricycles and tricycle drivers along Commonwealth Avenue. I was told it stretched all the way to QC Circle. I’m not sure if it was some sort of a protest rally or a Ninoy-Aquino tribute (all the tricycles were yellow?).

We didn’t have class in Geography 1 today since the professor is in China. But I had to meet up with my groupmates to talk about our report on Philippine population issues. It looks like I’m going to have to talk with Pro-Life. I didn’t want to do it at first because I’d be approaching them with my bias. And I didn’t get a good impression of their style of arguing after debating with some of their supporters at their online forum a few months back. I ended up being too overwhelmed by the bigotry of it all. There was this guy in the forum who insisted that there is no overpopulation in the Philippines, and that the sex-education program in the Philippines and in other poor countries is some conspiracy by the USA to keep us poor nations from growing economically. He’s the same guy is willing to (pimp) have her daughters marry at 17 because they would be at their sexual peak and at most fertile years. He’d rather have his children marry at their teens and produce children rather than go to college. He’s the same guy who is claiming to be pro-natal and is promoting a zero contraception lifestyle. He is even outraged with the thought of having just 2 children. And he also wants the boyfriend-girlfriend paradigm to be destroyed! Well, so be it for him, I guess. Kanya-kanyang paniniwala.

We had our weekly general assembly in MCO yesterday afternoon. As usual, hindi magkasya ang mga miyembro sa loob ng napaka-liit na tambayan. Nasasayangan ako sa laki ng vertical space. P’wede pa sigurong lagyan ng second floor-kuno kung papayagan ng admin.

In CAST, we were preparing a small exhibit of pictures for our anniversary. We were able to set it up late yesterday afternoon. [Pictures sa Flickr photo set ni C-an].

Since my orgs aren’t participating in this semester’s ACLE (Alternative Class Learning Experience) and since I’m not required to be in any, I’m going to have the afternoon off on Thursday. Off to watch the UP-Ateneo basketball game! I’m excited.

Sana marunong pa rin by then

I was supposed to drive Mama to the store this morning, after months of not being able to drive. But I couldn’t find my license (student license). Dahil tinatamad akong mag-apply para sa panibagong lisensya, I’ll just wait till I turn 18, then I’ll get a non-professional license.
