U-Na-I-Ba-E-Ra-Sa-I-Da-A-Da!
Went to Ateneo last Thursday afternoon with my MCO friends to watch the UP-Ateneo basketball game. I was really anticipating this meet-up of my high school alma mater and my university. But I’m on the maroon side now. I was even wearing my maroon-est looking red shirt. Cheering and chanting for UP was fun especially with such a boisterous crowd. Although I did feel weird that the chants and cheers from the other side were overwhelmingly familiar. I sometimes found myself unconsciously chanting halikinu. Watching the game was fun, well except for the part where UP lost. That depressed me for a while, but it’s all right. There’s more to UP pride than just college basketball.
When I was singing the Ateneo alma mater song after the game, I couldn’t get myself to sing two lines of the song. Not because I was bitter or anything. It’s just that I realized, those lines don’t apply to me anymore — or if they ever did in the first place. I’m eternally grateful for how AHS ‘formed’ me. I’ve always been very proud of my being from Ateneo High School. But my blood was never really “blue”.

Di ko gets… I mean, kahit green and white ako, siyempre nobody can deny that the Ateneo was not a bad school.
Do you deride Ateneo?
Ateneo is not a bad school at all. I’m eternally grateful for the four years I spent there. It’s just that I don’t feel like I belong there.
Hail to thee our alma mater Hail! Hail! Hail!
hehehe, ako rin, nalimutan ko na song namin… pero archer pa rin from K1 to LSGH to DLSU… pero nung nagmove ako sa BYU-Hawaii, nalimutan ko na yung mga lines…
it’s true, some things don’t apply to you anymore, pero shempre, deep inside bikoy will always be a blue atenean.
[…] The UP Fighting Maroons lost to the Ateneo Blue Eagles in their basketball game last Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The last time I watched a UP-Ateneo game, the Maroon lost too. Sad. But I’m sticking to this team. Filed under: College Comments: […]
