I am Jonah

I attended my fencing class for the first time last Wednesday. I have no background in fencing so, this is going to be new for me. We were taught the basic moves then we were dismissed half an hour early. Kid is taking the same class too, so I have someone I know to actually fence with.

Last Thursday, our Socio 10 instructor made us do some speed dating activity to get to know our classmates better. I actually don’t remember anyone new anymore because it was too, um, speedy. Also, when I introduced myself to different people, I kept saying I was sixteen years old. I only realized that I was saying something that wasn’t true halfway into the activity. Haha. That is probably an effect of not having enough sleep before a 7 AM class. Later that night, I had dinner with Patti, Deo, Kid and Eric after dropping by AS to see some car stuffing event.

After classes last Friday, Chesa, Marella, Prech, Eric, Kid and I went to Gateway to watch Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I’m not really much of a HP-fan. I didn’t continue reading the books after the Prisoner of Azkaban. I enjoyed the movie nonetheless.

I haven’t been posting as much supplementary pictures to my entries anymore, unlike before. Anyway, let these compensate for that apparent lack. These are some screen caps from our Film 112 production, Hulagpos. I was re-watching the final cut a little while ago and I realized that what was supposed to be a sci-fi short video felt to me became more of like a melodrama fantasy about a boy who made a deal with the devil, outsmarted him, but got outsmarted back.

If it’s DVD from China…

A month ago, I bought a 7-disc Wong Kar Wai DVD set from some seller in Ebay. After I won the bid, I found out that the seller wasn’t really from Hong Kong, as indicated in his profile. He was from Nanjing, China. That got me pretty nervous. A few of his feedbacks claim that his items are bootlegs. Duhr, he’s from China. What should I expect? Anyway, I picked up my package from the post office last Tuesday and watched In The Mood For Love and Happy Together at AD’s place with Patti, Kid, Eric and Kay. As for my item’s authenticity, I can say the item is a well-packaged fake. Grr. Well, as long as it works, I’ll just pretend it’s as good as an original. It pains me to remember how much I paid for it. That seller is going to get a negative feedback from me.

Almost half-way through college?

THURSDAY. Last Thursday was my first day of classes. I had Socio 10 at 7 AM in the morning. The instructor’s really pretty. Waking up early every Mondays and Thursdays wouldn’t be so bad, I guess. I’m probably also going to enjoy the topics. (Yes, yes, really). But then, maybe this is just the usual start-of-school academic enthusiasm.

I have silly six-hour breaks every Mondays and Thursdays after Socio 10. Last Thursday, I just went home after the socio class, continued my Lost marathon, slept, ate lunch and then went back to school in the afternoon for my 2:30 PM Math 2 class. I really wanted to take this Math 2 class. My course doesn’t require any Math, and I could’ve avoided Math my entire college stay, but I didn’t want to. Ayokong ma-bobo sa Math so I decided to take this class as my MST general education elective.

Wandered around UP after my Math class, bumped into people and hung with them for a while. Then at 5 PM, I met up with AD, Eric, Patti, Kid and Kim to watch Behind The Sun at the Cine Adarna. I missed watching movies at the Film Center.

FRIDAY. I was late for my 8:30 AM Comm 140 class. But that was all right, I think. I had an hour and a half break before my next class so I hung out at our tambayan, after almost a month of not seeing most of my orgmates. My next class, Hum 1, was at AS. There was the usual class orientation. I also got scolded for using my cellphone during class. So much for first day impressions. I had less than an hour left before my next class so I hung out with Kid for a while in AS. Went to my Art Stud 2 class by 1 PM. The professor didn’t show up so I went back to Mass Comm. Then I tagged along with AD, Patti and Eric who went to Katipunan to look at some DVD titles at some video shop. Crashed and hung out at Kay’s place for a while, then it’s back to UP.

There you go. A lame chronicle of the first two days of my fourth semester in Diliman.

What to do with that much time

I’m grateful that for registration this semester, I didn’t have to queue up all day hopping from one college to another looking for slots in any MST general elective (just imagine what college-hopping means in Diliman). I went to the Math Bldg. just before lunch today and I got a slot in a Math 2 class without even queuing up. Cool. It’s just that, getting into that class gives me a retarded six-hour long break every Monday and Thursday (8:30 AM - 2:30 PM). (Sarcastic) Great…

Hope it doesn’t take another whole day

It was enrollment for freshmen and graduating students yesterday. (I’m a sophomore) But I still went to school. Ha, I missed UP. I barely accomplished anything because we weren’t even allowed to get our Form 5A. But that was all right. I just wandered around UP with Eka and looked at the manual enlistment schedules for today. I still need one MST general elective. I hope today doesn’t turn out to be another manual registration nightmare.

I went to Quiapo with Mama after lunch. I hate when I can’t stop myself from spending my savings on DVD’s. I can’t help it.

I want to hop onto a provincial bus

I used to anticipate Undas when I was much younger. It felt very festive back then–the town cemeteries of my parents’ provincial hometowns teeming with people, food stalls everywhere, ice cream vendors roaming around, the atmosphere was just festive. In the family mausoleums were relatives and cousins gathered in some pseudo-reunion. Ah, such childish glee. I just don’t know what’s been different the past few years. (We were in China last year though). The same elements were present, just a little less relatives. Perhaps I’m getting older, I don’t know.

Anyway, after months of not using my SLR camera (I lent it out the past sem), I decided to bring it along when we went to Bulacan and Cavite and just took pictures. I’ve had the prints developed already. Too bad I don’t have a scanner.

Making films to make money

A reaction from Kenneth Guda on my entry about his article in Sinewaya.

Another written journal attempt

I bought myself a notebook journal a few weeks ago. There have been numerous times I attempted to keep a written journal but I always lose the habit after a few days since there’s always my blog/online journal where I usually find it more convenient to chronicle down the events in my life. But then, my blog has also long proven self inadequate a venue for me to write my more sensitive and secretive thoughts and feelings–especially now when more and more people in my personal life have access to it. Even my mom checks my blog regularly, after having to admit to her that I had one when I got interviewed in primetime news because of blogging.

Let’s just say that I recently found the need to have an outlet (of this kind) for… some things.
