What happened and what I did last Tuesday was indeed embarrassing. All day long the question running through my head was, “What’s the point of all these?” Why do we have to dress up in gowns and be made up to celebrate our org’s anniversary? Why at the expense of our… dignity? At the end of the day I just surrendered myself to everyone’s excitement and eagerness to see their male orgmates in drag. Well, as long as everyone is happy, I shall be happy about it. I love UP MCO nonetheless.

Yesterday, I saw Sukob at SM North EDSA’s new cinemas at their recently-opened mall, The Block. This recent addition to the SM North complex actually makes the mall larger (in terms of floor space), than what used to be called the third largest mall in the world, SM Megamall.

SM North EDSA's The Block

What just irked me when I went to SM yesterday was when I noticed that SM North EDSA’s cinemas’ lobbies are designed with pictures of Hollywood and Western movies. This also holds true to Gateway Mall’s cinemas. Am I not in Philippine cinemas? It was disappointing really, that even in the physical space and aspect of our major cinemas, we see how Hollywood-oriented our moviegoing culture persists.

I’m sorry if you felt violated.
thanks for being a great sport though.

    ok, so that’s what happened.

Have no idea why you felt that embarassing with the–umm… wait, have I figured this out… you’ve just had a Bebot in your UP MCO anniv?

My gawd, oh… hahaha. I should’ve seen you. Just kidding. Indang, Cavite is a Great Wall of China far from UPD. With the fact that you didn’t mention what really happened and set your camwhoring on this post to its lowest Bikoy setting, nah… I don’t want to make fun anymore.

At the expense of your dignity. Hehe, it would be devastating if I whored myself with posh and glittered tutus. Anyway, the orgmates might have enjoyed the show. Be glad.

Err… buti na lang hindi natuloy yung sa ‘min.

    One word–ASTIG!

Hmmm… SM Mall of Asia is, as far as it efforts in international publicity is concerned, claiming to be the world’s 3rd largest. (not sure with the stats, though). With that projection, I’m pretty sure Henry Sy’s not really interested to lone Philippine patronage.

woeh. @ SM north. I haven’t gone there for years, ever since lumipat na kami sa katipunan. I miss north. :| Ang ganda na ah.

but about the hollywood-esque layout, we discussed that in design class. From what I’ve heard from my prof, the ‘artist’ got paid 350,000.00 for the gateway collage thing and that he can actually be sued since the pictures there weren’t really stock images.

Ang pretty nung SM block. No comment on western cultural hegemony.

Actually. Weird no? You’re in the Philippines but it doesn’t feel like it. Kesyo mas cheap kasi tignan kung Pinoy yung mga pictures na ginamit nila dun.

That’s the problem with us Filipinos..
We look down at our own country..

Ano naman kaya ikina-cheap nun? Kaya namamatay ang industriya dahil sa mga taong ganiyan. Dapat sa kanila itinatapon sa states where their interests are best served.

  9. Resty O. says:

Right! Blame SM. SM is evil. Hehehehe. :)

  10. eric says:

kelan pa ba matatapos itong colonial mentality natin? i loathe SM for using foreign models instead of the locals sa mga ads nila. (their alibi, kasi daw mga foreign looking daw mga models available sa stock images)

tsk tsk i guess its high time for us to be proud of being a filipino once again.

lets bring back the glorious past of country
