“Bad eggs, right conduct”

Much has been said about the egg-pelting incident more than a week ago when some UP students threw eggs at Armed Forces Chief Hermogenes Esperon. Hm, let me just say that I side with the egg-throwers. Buti nga itlog lang ang ipinangganti sa mga balang kumitil ng napakaraming buhay ng mga aktibista. It was a simply a pathetic show of disrespect in response to terrible disrespect for hundreds of human lives. For as long as ordinary folk are void of the justice they deserve, incidents like these will happen. I would have done the same if I was as angry and frustrated. The prevailing system has left these people with no other venues nor recourse. I perfectly understand the actions of my fellow students.

Ngiti naman d’yan

Film 113 is one of our required film production classes. It’s where we get to actually shoot with film for the first time. Our class is fortunate enough to have been granted for free a few rolls of a hundred feet each of 16mm film from Kodak. Add that to a free whole day’s use of their Bolex camera, and our decision to simply take advantage of the Film Institute’s equipments, which we pay for with our laboratory fees anyway (but which we’re not supposed to pay for in the first place)–our class actually saved a lot of money compared to how other classes spent on their Film 113 productions. I am our group’s production manager, I should know. We still considerably spent much less despite the fact that we had to schedule a reshoot because of some unforseen circumstances and that the film and the camera by then wasn’t for free anymore. We also didn’t hire grips or gaffers to help us around. It was a very hands-on production.

Onto some pictures.

September 11

It was Ice’s birthday the preceding weekend so she treated us to a pre-production dinner at Mang Jimmy’s.

Girls born the same day…

11:50 PM. I’m at the tambayan of UP Writer’s Club at CAL. We just finished shooting the OBB and VTR at the lagoon for Kacey’s live TV drama production on Thursday. My co-actor, Surot, is a member of UP WC. We’re supposed to be a Maranao couple and we were dressed accordingly. It’s pretty amusing, actually.

Speaking of my batchmates’ TV production final projects, Wap also got me for her group’s live comedy production on Wednesday. I’m with Max and Krystel on that one.

Kinacareer na talaga. I’m also playing roles in Ely and Christer’s final TV production.

DESI DESI

From the palm

1:30 PM. I cut Film 106 class today to give myself time to rework on the student council’s publicity materials. Since my personal computer is dead, everything that I worked on the past days is gone.

Kim was rushed to the UP Infirmary a while ago, so I’ve decided to work on my stuff here. Many thanks to Con for lending me her iBook for a few hours.

Wake me up when everything’s over

When I got myself a PDA a few days ago to help me organize my very hectic academic and extra-curricular college life, I thought I would finally be able to keep my stress level tolerable. Still, things just had to go wrong. First, I actually just came home from our Film 113 shoot, which went almost six hours behind schedule because of various circumstances. And that’s not all. We have to reshoot a couple of sequences on Tuesday, which means additional time and expenses. Boy, you should have an idea how stressful shoots can be.

Welcome new members

I also attended the final rites and induction of applicants into my two organizations in Mass Comm.

The UP MCO final rites was held at some private rented house in Fairview. I only caught up in the afternoon, so I wasn’t able to witness the things that happened pre-induction. Hehe.

We’re forgetting something

We’re pulling this Mass Media Awareness Month this month. That basically preoccupies everyone in the council these days. A production festival, a symposium, an exhibit, a media summit and finally, a concert–all these can really put on the stress. Two down, three to go.
