Should one get into film school?
I came across two articles in DVGuru.com. One is an article with ten reasons why one shouldn’t go to film school and another one listing ten reasons why one should. Because getting into (well, as opposed to staying) in UP Film Institute is relatively inexpensive, if one is given the opportunity, I say he must not miss it. But I’d also like to give much weight on the reasons pointed out as to why one shouldn’t, though I’m not suggesting that one indeed shouldn’t. Benefits of one is inexclusive of the other, really.
My BC 100 classmates and I went through Sir Avecilla’s traditional marathon film viewing yesterday. True enough to stories from previous batches, we finished and were let go at around 10 PM in the evening already–that’s for a class that’s supposed to be from 1 - 4 PM. (And what does marathon film viewing have to do with Broadcast Communication, right? I really don’t know, and it wasn’t really explained to us.) The films we watched, The Scarlet and The Black and My Fair Lady, were enough to keep us going though. At first we all thought we were in for a bore. But it was quite the contrary. These classics are excellent. Add to that Mr. Avecilla’s ’scary’ and hilarious antics and wise words, plus overflowing popcorn, of course, this notorious marathon film viewing of his isn’t so bad at all.
We watched our footages for our short film in Film 113 with our instructor this morning. Admittedly, I’m a little disappointed myself, primarily because one of our sequences was missing and most of the rest were somewhat damaged because of the film spool accident. The missing footage, by the way, had been cut from the entire reel during its processing without us knowing. Anyway, I’m generally satisfied with the things we have learned.
