Downtown loitering
After bringing a brod of mine and his wife to their testing centers for their first day of medical board exams last Saturday, I continued driving through Recto till I made a left somewhere and found myself pleasantly lost in Binondo. Somehow, I found myself along Escolta. I decided to park along the famed bygone avenue and just started walking.

At the end of Escolta, I found myself walking into Sta. Cruz Church to say a few prayers before walking off to Plaza Carriedo. Soon enough, I found myself walking along Avenida Rizal, which has just been re-opened to vehicular traffic. It was early in the morning, so shops weren’t open yet.

There’s something peculiarly pleasant with walking around these parts of Manila and re-imagining them as places your parents and grandparents use to frequent, as places mentioned frequently in books by say, Sionil Jose and in other similar literature.

still, old manila.
nakakamis ang manila. it looks the same as five years ago.
Parang sa Davao sa me claveria st…
Di ba nakakatakot ilabas yung camera? :\
alam nyo sa sinuman nagsabing nakakatakot sa Binondo ay sooobrang exaggerated. Manila as a whole is a really beautiful place.. depende yan sa titingin.
And ano bang siyudad sa mundo ang hindi peligroso sa mga mandurukot at magnanakaw? even the high-end streets of new york, paris, london, tokyo etc are all infested with robbers, hold-uppers, snatchers and the likes.
Sana before natin punahin (or laitin) yung Manila.. ask yourself first if you have done something to help the city (in any way).
peace everyone!
hindi pa ako nakarating ng Binondo….
Nakakatakot ba talaga doon?
I’m so sick at looking and SMELLING Manila. I think it’s the worst city I’ve ever been on. It’s just my luck that I study there. Gah.
Hmm, I think you’re crazy for taking your camera out in the open. One second it’s there, the next it’s gone. lol
Aha! Gumimik sa Binondo mag-isa! Haha! Well, your examinees are both doctors. And Joseph’s wife even placed third. Hehe!
Lalon:
Well, hindi mo naman masisisi kung may mga taong may kabang maglabas ng gamit o anuman sa Binondo, at sa kahit anong public place in general, kasi nga you really cannot tell kung kailan ka madadali ng aksidente (o kamalasan). That’s the sad thing about it nga eh; Manila is such a great city pero dahil sa mga experiences ng mga tao, they tend to be more careful when they go to that place.
In my case, I asked Bikoy because I never pull out my stuff in public after my snatching incident when I was still in UP. >D
