From the rotten house
When I got home late last night, I turned on the TV to watch parts of the proceedings in the House of Representatives. As everyone knows, an overwhelming majority of the House voted to oust Rep. Jose de Venecia from his leadership as Speaker. One of his sons may be one of my friends, but I didn’t feel any sort of sympathy for the Speaker as he was betrayed by his fellows in Congress and by the administration he has so fervently supported and defended all these years. For me, the circus in Congress and his consequent ouster was a natural phase of decay in a rotten institution. It is natural for a rotten body to decay and destroy itself.
It’s sickening how the words change and reform were raped by the congressmen last night. What change and reform are they talking about? They are largely the very institution that sustains the status quo. Their political maneuverings only seek to preserve the prevailing order of an Arroyo-controlled government and all its crimes. My god, I’ve rarely heard that much bullshit in one night. It can only come from Congress! If we should be certain about one thing, it is that congressmen are some of the last people who will be real agents of change in this country, for they are those who thrive in our present and tragic condition and social order.
There are some who fear that the events of the past days only reinforce the theory that the President and her family are preparing to maneuver its way into post-2010 control of the government. Scary thought, but all too probable.
You’re so adorable. Your birthday entry is about Philippine Politics.
Anyway, I couldn’t agree more, I mean JDV has been there since forever. I appreciated his speech in a vacuum thou’, not being affected by the circumstances, sana lang matagal na niyang pinandinggan yung pag whistleblow ni Joey.
I get so emotional about the entire ZTE scandal. The Lozada press con, sobrang nakakaiyak siya, in an emotional way. Especially the bit wherein he says: “Ang salitang Pilipino ay hindi lang tungkol sa isang pamilya. Ang salitang Pilipino ay tungkol sa isang bansa. … And sometimes it is worth taking a risk para sa ating bansa.” This guy seems really genuine kasi.
Ang masasabi ko na lang, I’m just so pissed off that for a project that probably won’t be passed, we sure wasted so much time and effort in the bicameral processes. RAR. It was entertaining, but that’s the reason why we create soap operas and reality TV, we don’t need to see this in government.
haha, yes. i wouldn’t ever make a birthday entry out of this. but that’s bikoy.
JDV’s speech wasn’t 10 minutes long (the original time that he was supposedly given). He’s so not going to pass Broad Comm. haha.
you know what’s wrong with JDV? it is the fact that he knows a lot of things about the allegations to the administration but he kept quiet about it just to keep his position. and now that he lost his position, he squeals out everything there is. somehow, it means that he allowed to be bribed with position just to keep quiet. is that the kind of governamnt leader that we really want to have. we all thought he has such a clean profile but now, look at how his name looks. though he is not directly related to the ZTE scandal. the fact that he covered for the administration is not a wise move, especially with his (rumored) intention of running for presidency.
Birthday mo pala kahapon?
The whole JDV thing was absolutely disgusting. Sure he runs amok with how he was betrayed… but by doing this he is exposing the very root of why he really is still in power. You couldn’t have said it any better. =)
