Campaign in the dormitories

Ligwakan sa Yakal 2008

One of the anticipated parts in the campaign for the student council elections is the series of dorm tours. Dorm tours are face-off / debate events organized by the different dormitories in UP Diliman where they invite the parties and the candidates in the university student council elections, grill them and pit them against one another through questions. Questions may range from the serious and the political to the silly and funny.

Sometimes, they make the candidates play games and make them dance around–all in the spirit of good fun and camaraderie among rival candidates and students. In Yakal Residence Hall, a few nights ago, they made all the male candidates form a line, with no two partymates beside each other. They made us pass a around a piece of calling card with our mouths and without using our hands. Suck and Blow, they call it. Whew.

Kalayaan Residence Hall renovation

Speaking of dormitories, a few weeks ago, we were invited to the launching dinner of the renovated lobbies and offices of Kalayaan Residence Hall, the dormitory in UP Diliman exclusive to freshmen. Forgive me but the English equivalent of maaliwalas escapes me right now, but that is how I’d describe the new lobby and TV area.

A few days from now, I’ll be back in Kalayaan for the dorm tour. See you there.

Too bad I didn’t get to see it. But Ligwakan is always interesting. Makes one realize how much guts each of those candidates truly have.

I love our lobby. It gives me the feeling that there is a brighter tomorrow for us freshies. Wahaha.

And I’m really excited about these debate stuff, magkakaalaman na kung sino ang maalam at kung sinong, haha. Basta.

Hey Bikoy! Haha. Si Kayzer yun ah. Roommate ko yan sa Molave. Probably, you haven’t heard about me before pa. I am a silent fan of your blog. And yea, I reserved a slot for you in my ballot.

Sa Stand UP, I like you and Airah. Pero kasi kay Airah at Marian torn pa ako, pero mas lamang si Marian sa akin. Hehehe. But you all did well last night sa dorm campaign sa Molave.

And yes, maaliwalas na nga ang Kalay. Isunod naman ang Molave! Hahaha.

Airah not only delivered in her student council, she went beyond that to serve fellow students outside her college and especially the broad masses. She is the incoming chairperson of STAND-UP, for more. She’s been with us in the anti-TOFI campaign from the onset, unlike “certain people” who have retracted their pro-TOFI stands come the election period, claim it to be part of their post-modernist shit, and kept MUM the whole year (save for alleged but virtually unheard statements here and there) even as the policy review was released not long after the implementation of TOFI itself.

Do I come off as a hardliner? That’s just stating the facts, if you’ve read STAND-UP’s recent statement releases you’ll know what I’m talking about. That’s also beside the fact that I am simply an ultra-airah fan. The paramount reason why we should pick Airah is because she is the CUTEST of them all. Yey. <3

Sorry for going a bit off topic, Bikoy. Silent fan mo rin naman ako eh, masmaingay lang ang pagka-fan ko kay Airah.
