I'm a product of the UC system - more specifically the University of California, Irvine Class of 2008. This topic hits close to home since financing my college education was one of my main concerns when I entered UC Irvine. The proposed increase in tuition and furloughs will obviously have an adverse effect on the current and future UC students.

Over the summer, UC Irvine cut several of its sports teams (including those with athletic scholarships) along with various student programs funded by the UC system (which ironically included a program designed to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds). How I wish I could have joined the walk-out protests, but since I moved to the Philippines a few months back, all I can do is watch the development of this topic.

How helpful these walkouts are is up in the air, but it surely does send a message to the UC Regents.
